Frequently Asked Questions about Log Book servicing

To help you understand Log Book servicing and learn more about Ultra Lube Mechanical Workshop in Midland, please read the questions and answers below:

What is a Log Book Service?

A Logbook Service is based on a schedule that the car manufacturer believes the components will need to be replaced to keep the vehicle running in the long term. In some cases these items will need to be replaced sooner depending on driving style and conditions.

What happens if I miss a Service?

If you miss a service, some issues that are minor may not be picked up until they get worse or cause additional damage. Missing a service can also cause the engine oil to form what is called sludge, which can reduce lubrication to key components and result in engine damage. If you miss a logbook service you may void any warranty on your vehicle

Do you have Loan cars and how much do they cost?

We do offer Loan Cars. While they are Free, we do expect them returned with the same level of fuel that we lend them out at and in the same condition.

Will I lose my New Car Warranty if I don't go back to the dealer?

No, you will not lose your new car warranty if you don't go back to the dealer. You will however have to get the vehicle serviced as per the logbook by a licensed mechanic using quality parts. There is no requirement under the Australian Consumer Law for a vehicle to be serviced by an authorized dealer in order for the consumer guarantees and manufacturer’s warranty to apply, provided the service is accordance with the specified requirements by a qualified mechanic or service centre. Ultra Lube Mechanical Workshop is fully qualified to service new vehicles. We have more information on this for you in our article. Please click here.

I have lost my Log Book, do I need it?

While having the logbook does make it easier with any warranty concerns, most manufacturers should accept invoices of work done as proof that the vehicle has been maintained correctly. In fact most manufacturers will require that the invoices be provided with or without the logbook. You may also be able to purchase a replacement logbook from some manufacturers

Do you provide Digital reports for the work you have done? or a digital report of what's wrong with my car?

Yes, if you have provided us with an email address, you will receive a digital invoice/ report of work carried out. And we will send you a link to download your digital inspection report, including photos

How long will the service take?

The time we allow for a service can vary from 2 hours for a minor service up to 2 days for some logbook services depending on make/ model and which service is due, as we do not wish to rush some of the more complicated logbook services

How much will my service cost?

The service cost can vary quite dramatically so please send through your license plate/rego number and which service is due. Then we can provide you with a quote
